Process notes
Sig writes:
I began working on objects connected with the Great War in 2002. I chose photographs from the war and painted over them digitally, cutting parts out, “rearranging” the pictures. This fragmentation made new images arise, transmitting ideas and messages that were not — or not directly — visible in the originals.

For steve’s notes, see Icarus in No Man’s Land.

Process notes

This is the first of ten images we’ll be featuring from an unpublished manuscript by dalachinsky and Schmidt called Flying Home. steve writes:
Sig is a German painter. He altered WWI photos and i poemed along to the image. There are 55 of ’em in total. As far as process goes, it’s like call and response. Sig sent his altered photos and i looked and shot, so to speak. Based on his titles and the images i went really on a mental cutup and spontaneous reaction in most cases too.
