It’s exciting to see this image becoming part of the “Worship” issue. For all who wonder where the photo is taken: not in a temple, but in the British Museum. I just put some notes about the photo and the visit together, here: Sitting With” the statues in the British Museum
Thanks for the extra info, Dorothee. I have been and sat where these two are sitting and looked at this exhibit. There’s something about the contrast between these two, and the rupas that is striking. They are all out of context in someway, perhaps?
A couple of years ago I had a private tour of the Amravati Stupa. That section was closed, and I was talking to the curator, who noticed my then shaven head and Buddhist garb. He let me in for a look around!
