This poem, as your others, speaks to me of the paradoxes and contradictions in life. And you do it so light.ly, which is de.light.ful.
It is a way of looking at life. knowing that it will not always make sense:-) and somehow we are better off with that attitude. and maybe that is why I misread the last like as: without happiness, how do we know we actually exist?

i love the lines:

Who could have thought after these many years our most mundane remarks would outlast our affections.

We communicated almost solely through T-shirts, reading them out loud to each other,
