The Latch Once Lifted
Light opens, vertical
like your body, your
shape but growing
and glowing as who would not
want to — so
you are willing
to risk desert, the scorch
of it, its lack
of hiding places.
You’ll be a lizard
surviving
in a dry arroyo,
each yesterday washed away
by flooding light.

Oh, that’s marvelous.
each yesterday washed away
by flooding light.
That made my heart stand still.
I love the title and the opening lines:
Light opens, vertical
like your body, your
shape but growing
and glowing as who would not
want to —
A great poem, congratulations, Anny
