What a metaphor for the end result of our society’s deadly attraction to the infernal combustion engine – this rusting old wreck, the color of red ochre, the sacred color for many peoples – found here in this useless piece of junk, the detritus of Plato’s Republic, unable to get up and go, though the camera’s eye takes us to the tall firs, the bare hill, and the blue sky beyond.
