Many, many thanks to all comments and commentors…

I’m back after an exhausting ten days on the road, training at other temples and standing in queues at embassies in other countries, to *this*: enormous friendship and support from seas across the seas, mountains over the mountains. “Thank you” is not a pair of words adequate for the moment, but they, as usual, will have to do.

Unsparing as this is, I think it’s the only thing I’ve ever read that has made me begin to apprehend the attractions of your path, Soen Joon. Reading this I felt through you so that great conundrum that Buddhist nuns and monks who have shucked off the self are more vibrantly themselves than anyone else I ever meet. I’m so glad to have read this, for what it says and for your, always beautiful but here most beautiful, writing.

I cannot express the deep appeal such loss and bare life holds for me. I find, with some regret, that it is not my path. The only real way is the one that is hard and steep, in just the way the soul needs.

I admire your courage, your determination. Especially that you know you have chosen well.

Wow. This was very moving, Soen Joon. I’m glad you gave us the truth, because it rings so clear here. I wish for you that things go well with the tests you face and you can go forward with the monastic life if it continues to be what you choose, as it sounds like it is. I’m glad that you can connect with us online, too, and hope it helps assuage some of the loneliness.
